HOME DESCRIPTION

A wonderful little cottage situated in the village of Whitwell. From the mature rear gardens, you can enjoy lovely views across the Islands countryside continuing to a downland backdrop. Don't worry if it's a chilly day, you can still enjoy the views from the conservatory... The accommodation is light & airy with a double & a twin bedroom, lounge, dining room with a feature exposed red brick fireplace, fitted kitchen & a great conservatory leading out to the rear gardens. The downstairs bathroom has a contemporary feel, being tiled & having a 'wet room' area to one end & a conventional bath with shower attachment to the other end of the room. A super little home for those seeking a nice relaxing holiday & providing a convenient base from which to explore the lovely Isle of Wight...

ACCOMMODATION

Dining Room  The front door leads directly into the dining room with doors off to the lounge & kitchen. Stairs lead off to the upstairs. The dining room is a room of character, with its exposed red brick fireplace forming a focal point. There is a dining table with chairs accommodating 4 people.

Lounge  A bright little room with comfortable lounge seating for 4 - just right after a busy day exploring the attractions the Island has to offer. In addition, there is a flat screen television with Freesat & DVD player. A focal point to the room is the fireplace with its log burning stove, although this is for 'ambience' only, with guests kindly requested not to light a fire.

Kitchen  The fitted kitchen comprises wall & base cupboards with work tops over. The appliances include an electric oven incorporating a grill, electric hob with extractor/filter hood over, microwave, fridge with freezer box, toaster & the all important kettle! An internal window & door lead to the conservatory.

Conservatory  A great addition to the cottage with comfortable seating from which you can relax & enjoy the view down through the garden, continuing across the open countryside to a downland backdrop. Double opening doors lead out onto a patio & gardens.

Bathroom  Being fully tiled with a 'wet room' area to one end & panelled bath with shower cradle attachment to the other end. Pedestal wash basin & 'push flush' wc.

First Floor

Please note, the stairs are of typical design & character for this type & age of property & are therefore quite steep.

Bedroom 1  A double room with bedside drawer units & wall mounted reading lights. Fitted wardrobe with hanging space & shelf. Chest of drawers.

Bedroom 2  A twin room with bedside drawer units & reading lights. Hanging space & storage shelf to recess with chest of drawers. The room enjoys a pleasant dual aspect, with views over the rear garden, continuing across the open countryside to the downland beyond.

Outside  There is a small garden area to the front with a car hardstanding to the side, allowing for the parking of 1 car. Gated access leads to the rear garden, which is mainly laid to lawn & with mature hedging, shrubs & trees. From here, lovely views across open fields to the downland beyond can be enjoyed.

NB The rear garden is quite a long garden & is divided by wooden fencing & little locked gate. Guests are kindly requested not to try & venture beyond the wooden fence, as there is a natural pond situated towards the bottom of the garden, which could prove a hazzard to young children.

WHITWELL

Whitwell is a small village situated towards the south of the Isle of Wight. The whole village is surrounded mainly by open fields & is classed as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty', which forms part of the Isle of Wight AONB. The nearest town is the coastal town of Ventnor, being just over 3 miles away. The neighbouring villages of Godshill (well known for its 'cream teas', model village & querky gift shops) & Niton are only around a five minute drive away. Whitwell has much history. Parts of the local church date back to the 12th century & the local pub, the 'White Horse Inn' dates from the 15th century - this is a great pub which extends a warm welcome & offers a full menu - definitely worth a visit! If you require any stamps for those postcards, the post office can be found inside the church's bell tower! For those who enjoy walking, the 'River Yar Trail' runs through the village & there is a milestone outside the village pub. There are also bridleways that run to the nearby villages of Wroxall & Niton.

THE ISLE OF WIGHT

The Isle of Wight is situated approximately 3 miles off the English Southern Coastline. It is known for its breathtaking scenery with much of the Island being designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Island first became popular as a holiday destination during Victorian times and its unique charm still entices over 2.5 million visitors each year. It is quite easy to appreciate why the Island attracts so many, with its scenic coastline, award winning golden beaches, charming little villages and temperate climate – in fact the Island can boast more hours of sunshine than most other destinations in Britain. For the more energetic, the Island offers over 500 miles of maintained footpaths which makes it ideal for walkers and cyclists alike. The Islands towns offer a comprehensive range of shops and amenities including many 'High Street' names together with popular cafes, bars and restaurants - some even being awarded the 'Michelin Star'. All in all the Island is a wonderful holiday destination, catering for all ages and with activities for all interests.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Changeover day is Saturday. Guests are kindly requested not to arrive before 3:30pm and vacate by 10:00am on day of departure. Bed linen & towels are provided but please bring own beach towels if required.

SHORT BREAKS  Short Breaks are available but unfortunately not during the High Season. Typically, the options would be a mid-week break between Monday – Friday (4 nights) and a weekend break being Friday – Monday (3 nights). However, a degree of flexibility is normally available, so please contact Wight Island Escapes on 01983 303 303 for further information & availability.

PRICING for short breaks is calculated at 70%, 75%, 85% & 95% of the advertised weekly rental for 3, 4, 5 & 6 night stays respectively. Please see under 'availability' for weekly rental rates.   DISCOUNTED INTRODUCTORY RATES FOR THE 2017 SUMMER SEASON...

Pets  One well behaved dog is permitted at the owners & our discretion. There is a pet fee of £30.00 should you wish to bring your pet. Please include this request at the time of booking & familiarise yourself with our pet policy, which can be found within our Booking Terms & Conditions.

BOOKINGS

In order for your booking to be confirmed, we will require a 25% deposit & a small booking fee of £25.00. A £100.00 (returnable) damage deposit will also be required which will be added to the total amount owing. The balance of all monies owed is required 8 weeks prior to the commencement of your holiday. Should you be booking your holiday within 8 weeks of your holiday commencing, then all monies will be required when booking. Your damage deposit will be returned as soon as administratively possible after completion of the check-out inspection, which is normally within 7 days of your departure. Guests are kindly requested to leave the property in the condition in which it was found at the start of their holiday.

GETTING TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT

In total there are six routes to the Island which will vary depending on your method of travel. These routes are run by three different operators, providing frequent crossings across the Solent.

The first is Red Funnel operating a car/passenger ferry service between Southampton and East Cowes. They also operate a 'High Speed' passenger ferry service between Southampton and West Cowes (www.redfunnel.co.uk).

The second operator is Wightlink. They run car/passenger ferry services between Lymington and Yarmouth, Portsmouth and Fishbourne together with a passenger ferry service between Portsmouth and Ryde (www.wightlink.co.uk).

The final operator is Hovertravel who run high speed passenger hovercrafts between Southsea and Ryde (www.hovertravel.co.uk).
